Our practice
We are an independent, RCVS accredited hospital in Bishops Stortford set in beautiful Hertfordshire. We also have two branch practices, one in Saffron Walden and the other in Stanstead Abbots.
We have been a part of the community for over 120 years and remain the only hospital within a 10 mile radius.
We have an amazing leadership team who help to manage our 17 nurses and 12 vets, and amazing support staff team, and we provide the highest quality care possible for our clients and patients 24/7.
The role:
Due to ongoing growth of the practice, this is a brand-new role responsible for assisting the Practice Manager in the non-clinical, day to day running of a busy hospital, as well as managing and leading a team of veterinary surgeons, nurses and support staff.
We are looking for an individual who is proactive, approachable and able to communicate confidently and effectively with people at all levels, building strong relationships with both colleagues and clients.
The successful candidate will work closely with the senior leadership team, carrying out varied administrative and client care duties with a strong emphasis on leading and supporting the team.
In this role you will assist with financial and operational performance of the hospital. Excellent IT skills are essential for this role. The ability to work as part of a busy, public-facing environment is also crucial.
Veterinary background and / or experience is advantageous but not essential.
Job responsibilities:
· Managing manual and computerised record / information systems.
· Analysing and evaluating data/information and producing reports/information/data as required.
· Undertaking IT based tasks as required.
· Providing personal, administrative and organisational support to other staff.
· Leading and developing the reception team to ensure exceptional client experiences.
· Providing proactive support to the Practice Manager and Clinical Directors.
· Being the go-to person for employee relations, supported by our external HR consultants.
· Being available to help out on reception, answering calls, enquiries and dealing with clients.
· Coordinating maintenance, repairs and efficient scheduling.
· Assisting in the control of finances and debtors.
· Addressing complaints and concerns professionally, striving to exceed client expectations.

Veterinary Surgeon Full or Part time
Are you a vet who wants to learn and develop your skills in a supportive caring environment ? If so our progressive 12 vet INDEPENDENT RCVS accredited veterinary hospital has a full time position available.
We have a friendly close knit team of vets with many years of experience between them. Several hold post graduate certificates (surgery, medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology and CertAVP) and we have Advanced Practitioners in Medicine and Surgery. Currently, there are 2 vets enrolled on certificates (ophthalmology and medicine). We also offer expertise in behaviour. The hospital sees a very wide range of cases and vets are able to perform a high standard of workup and treatment, with support and full clinical freedom. We have a superb, dedicated, caring nursing team and wonderful, helpful admin staff. Our focus is very much on achieving successful clinical outcomes for our clients rather than hitting financial targets.
We know that starting a new job can be challenging, so you will have a full day induction and be allocated to a buddy vet to provide assistance to get you going. We also have an active clinical Whatsapp group for vets to join and support each other. Frequent in-house lunch and learn style CPD is organised to complement external CPD courses. All vets have blocked off breaks on the diary during consulting times and for lunchtime, as well as allocated admin time. We have a lovely comfy large staff room with sofas for relaxing in and chatting with colleagues. We want you to enjoy your day!
The hospital is very well equipped with ASIF, mono/bipolar cautery, multi-parameter anaesthetic monitors with capnography, digital x-ray, rigid and flexible video-endoscopy, doppler ultrasound, 24 hour in-house laboratory, tonometry, operating microscope and slit lamp. We also have a fully equipped dental suite with a high speed dental drill, dental x-ray and loupes. We have onsite hydrotherapy and laser therapy. If there is something you want or need and we don’t have, all you need to do is ask !
Bishops Stortford is a vibrant market town set in rolling rural countryside. It has an excellent train service to London Liverpool Street making it an easy town to commute to/from London or other nearby towns e.g Cambridge. It also has excellent local schools and being only 15 minutes from Stansted airport, keen travellers will find it easy to jet off for the weekend . We have been serving the local community in this area for over 120 years.

New graduates considered . We are a registered GDP practice.
The full time on call position rota described :
Rolling rota comprised of a 3 and 1/2 day week plus OOHS and weekends on a 1 in 9 basis.
On six weekends per year the rota gives you an extra-long weekend off from Thursday 1pm to Monday 8.30am.
We do cover our own out of hours duties, which are only for registered clients of the practice, however the rota is designed sympathetically to accommodate this and is shared on a 1 in 9 basis.
5 weeks holiday + 2 extra paid CPD days for attendance courses.
Support, encouragement and funding for anyone wanting to do a certificate.
Bonus pay for procedures carried out when on call.
Separate accommodation for vets should they wish to stay over when on call.
