About Us

Our site has been in continuous use as a Veterinary Surgery since Mr Brunskill MRCVS qualified in 1878 and moved to Bishops Stortford.

The veterinary work in those days was mainly farm animals and horses, with the odd farm dog and a rare cat.

The famous racehorse ‘Golden Miller’ was treated here, and Sir Frederick Hobday FRCVS used to visit here to perform his now universal Hobday procedure for horses with laryngeal paralysis.

Many years, and several generations of vets later and the practice is still going strong.

We now concentrate solely on companion animals and since 1985, have held the accolade of “Hospital” status, the highest standard awarded to general practice veterinary clinics in the UK.

Today our head vets , Alison Somers , Ruth Jackson, and Neil Macleod, continue to push the practice to ever higher levels of clinical excellence and customer service.

We invest heavily in the latest equipment so our vets can offer you the modern 21st century veterinary treatment your pet deserves.

After 150 years, the practice still provides the individual personalised care that we believe is best delivered by a clinic that remains independently owned.

Regardless of the high level of service we offer, we remain competitively priced. We do ask that you settle your bill at the time of treatment, regardless of insurance status. Please don’t hesitate to ask your vet beforehand for estimates of work to be done. We accept cheques and all major credit cards excluding Diners Club and American Express.
